Why I coach

People often ask what drew me to coaching. While my journey to becoming a coach is a valuable story I've told many times, the short answer is just as important: I simply love the work.

I love supporting my clients on their paths towards leading more authentic lives. I feel honored and humbled by the level of trust and sharing that is present between us. My clients are brave, creative, and determined. They tackle big issues and question the patterns that no longer serve them. This is the tough stuff that is so challenging but so rewarding. And friends, they are showing up to do the work.

It takes time to shift into new ways of thinking and being in the world. When a client shares their progress and how they're taking action towards achieving calm and happiness in their daily lives, it's often followed by a big "thanks for making this possible for me." I remind them that they're the ones doing the hard work, not me. They're the ones making the choice to embrace their goals, desires, and dreams.

On Friday, I shared how inspired I felt by their actions with a client. Their progress is a tangible example of how important it is for me to continue to focus on my own goals. We humans get so stuck in our ways of being that it's easy to want to take a day off from it all. But sustainable change is made up of small, daily choices.

Coaching is a truly rewarding practice, and I'm grateful every day that I chose this path. It's deeply moving to bear witness to my clients' transformative work as a result of our time together. One of my favorite quotes is by Howard Thurman, who said, "Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what you love. Because when you do what you love, the world will need it." That statement continues to feel truer every day.
