Words For Your Younger Self

Happy Mother’s Day to everyone honoring a mom, being celebrated, or acknowledging those who mother them. I know that today can be more painful than joyous for some of us. To everyone: remember that you are both lovable and loved.

I’m sharing a few guiding thoughts as well as an exercise to carry with you as you prepare for the week ahead. Follow me on Instagram for more mindful moments and useful quotes throughout the week.

Let’s change the negative conversations we have with ourselves to positive and uplifting ones.

How do you think your little self wants to be talked to? I'm sure they don't want to be told they are not enough, especially in all the various ways we use "negative" talk to communicate with ourselves.

Exercise: Find a picture of you as a little child, before the age of 13. Study the photo.

See the beautiful resilient unchanging essence which was you and is you! What is the essence of this little being? What are some words that describe them? What kind of love do you have for them? How would you speak to this little you? What things would you like to share with this little you?

I've changed the way I engage with myself. I remind myself that:

  • I AM Love

  • I AM Compassionate

  • I AM Happy

  • I AM Vibrant

  • I AM Curious

  • I AM Wonder

What positive messages to your little self will you carry with you into this week and beyond? What are you choosing to let go of?

I'll leave you with this important reminder from Sharon Salzberg, whose meditation courses have helped me immensely over the years. Let's all try to be a little kinder to ourselves this week.
