Did you practice your RPMs this morning?

In my first session of coach training at New Ventures West back in November of 2017, they had us engage in a morning sitting meditation practice. I'll be honest: I. Was. Not. Happy. It was so hard. My body hurt, my mind was a hot mess swirling all over and I had no idea what it had to do with learning how to coach.

Fast forward to 2023. I have been trying for the last five-and-a-half years to maintain a daily meditation practice. Specifically, a morning ritual where it's the first thing I do, just for me, before I start my day. And honestly, it's been a struggle. I've experienced periods when I can go for 15 days or so on a regular basis, but my sitting times are sporadic throughout the day. I found that I was skipping the morning, then too busy in the afternoon, and...oops. I'd think that I could sneak it in before I fell asleep and...dang, too tired. I'd miss another day, which would turn into a few days, weeks, or even months.

But today I am thrilled to share that I recently passed 31 days of consecutive morning meditation! I have made space in the morning right after I wake up to ensure this is the priority. Even when I was sick over Christmas, I still made it a priority, as I lay in bed. So how did I make this happen, how did I make the sudden switch you may ask? One of my mentors in meditation, Davidji!

Our thoughts are not roadblocks to our meditation, they are the divine expression of the universe and the building blocks of infinite possibilities available to us in every moment.

- Davidji

His seven-day Peace challenge on the meditation app I always use, Insight Timer, gave me the jump-start I needed. I committed to those seven days and then kept building upon them. I've learned a lot from Davidji over the last few years of following him and he always inspires me. I've participated in a couple of his meditation challenges as well. But one lesson that has always stuck with me is the acronym he lives his life by, RPM. That stands for:

  1. Rise

  2. Pee

  3. Meditate

Are you curious about meditation? Do you want to learn more about it? Davidji, along with many others, offers free meditations on the Insight Timer app. I can't recommend them enough! I hope to see you there, "from the sweet spot of the Universe" as Davidji always signs off with.

Come meditate with me!
